Expanding on earlier book discussion ideas for the bold librarian, I currently recommend “The Great Taking” by David Rogers Webb. It is available for free online in print and audio versions, and a free documentary based on the book is on youtube.

In a nutshell, Webb explains that investors no longer own securities but instead have “entitlements” to them and explores the implications of this change in the case of a financial collapse. I have listened to several podcasters review the book; thus far they have confirmed that the claims Webb makes are correct, but they do not necessarily agree with Webb’s gloomier predictions.

Webb advocates for calm awareness as the first step. What better place than a library to foster that awareness?
